The Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dental Anesthesiology hosts a four-year program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery that is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and which offers training in all aspects of the specialty.
Our program is designed to provide extensive experience in ambulatory and inpatient oral and maxillofacial surgery, deepen comprehensive knowledge of associated medical and general surgical concepts and principles, and develop skills in research scholarship and understanding of new knowledge. The program is housed in the College of Dentistry; however, residents are fully credentialed by the college, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, and Nationwide Children’s Hospitals. The program offers heavy experience in the full scope of major hospital maxillofacial procedures as well as outpatient clinical surgery.
A diverse full-time faculty devotes a large percent of its effort to the residency program, as do surgeons from private practice who participate regularly in the educational process. This mix of full- and part-time attendings provides the resident with a variety of role models and different treatment approaches for any given clinical situation.
We are proud of the tradition of excellence that our program has developed over its 50 years of existence. We continue to pursue this goal with constant improvement in our teaching methods and physical facilities. Our clinic is a recently reconstructed 6,000 square foot facility on the second floor of the College of Dentistry. This state-of-the-art surgical suite includes full digital radiographic capabilities, a three-chair consultation area, four private treatment rooms, a six-bay emergency treatment area, two fully equipped operating rooms, recovery room, library and office space. Residents work and study in a large office and clinical laboratory space immediately adjacent to the clinic, departmental conference room and faculty offices.
